Google DeepMind Research Ready Programme

Summer research programme in Artificial Intelligence for undergraduate students from UK universities, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds.

Research Internship
The Google DeepMind Research Ready Programme is a summer learning experience designed for second- or third-year undergraduate students from any UK university. It focuses on the fields of Computer Science, AI, or closely related academic areas such as Data Science, Physics, Maths, and Neuroscience. Participants will gain an understanding of how AI works and its implications, learning from leading academics in the field. The programme teaches valuable research methods and how to apply them in a supportive learning environment, aiming to build career-enhancing AI skills and explore the role of AI in various industries. Applicants should possess a basic understanding of computer programming, a desire to challenge themselves, and an interest in AI research. Created by Queen Mary University of London, the programme aims to address under-representation in the field of AI, actively seeking applicants from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds and other underrepresented groups, including female students and those from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds. This initiative is a partnership between the Royal Academy of Engineering, Google DeepMind, and The Hg Foundation, offering up to 120 paid AI research placements during the summer of 2025, hosted across 12 UK universities. The programme is scheduled to run from June 16 to August 8, 2025.
