The Kew Internship Programme provides several types of paid internships across the science departments of the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, with placements available at Kew in London or Wakehurst in Sussex. These internships are designed to offer practical work experience and training to undergraduates and recent graduates in biological sciences or related subjects. Successful applicants work alongside experienced botanists, mycologists, and conservation scientists, contributing to projects aligned with Kew's Science Strategy. This may involve engaging in ongoing botanical research, policy work, or conservation activities, often including an extended project. Interns receive training in key research skills from leading experts, gaining valuable hands-on professional experience. They also have access to Kew's world-renowned collections of plant and fungal specimens, as well as its library and research facilities. All interns participate in a range of training and development opportunities organized by the Science Education team, including monthly behind-the-scenes tours of Kew Gardens and Wakehurst, offering insights into the diverse work conducted at Kew. Specific internship types include 12-month undergraduate sandwich placements, 8-week summer internships, and flexible-duration science project internships.
