Ouseley Short-Term Research Fellowship

A funded three-month research fellowship for post-doctoral scholars focusing on Arabic, Persian, and other Oriental languages at the Warburg Institute in London.

Fellowship
The Ouseley Short-Term Research Fellowship provides financial assistance for living and subsistence expenses in London, enabling scholars to conduct research on Arabic, Persian, Hindustani, and other Oriental languages within the United Kingdom. This award facilitates a research period for academics, allowing them to engage with and contribute to the vibrant intellectual environment of the Warburg Institute. Fellows are provided with dedicated workspace and may be invited to present their work in a Work-in-Progress Seminar, as well as contributing to the Institute ’s blog, Mnemosyne. The Warburg Institute is renowned globally as a premier institution dedicated to exploring the interplay of ideas, images, and societal dynamics, particularly emphasizing the enduring legacy of antiquity. Its resources, including an open-stack Library, Photographic Collection, and Archive, are fundamental to its interdisciplinary research, postgraduate education, and diverse events and publication initiatives. Located within London's Bloomsbury Knowledge Quarter, the Institute offers fellows extensive opportunities for academic collaboration with scholars from local universities, museums, galleries, and other research institutions. The fellowship is designed for scholars at any stage of their post-doctoral career who possess a PhD by the fellowship start date in September. Applicants are expected to undertake original research specifically on Arabic and/or Persian language and culture. Preference is given to projects aligning with the Institute's established expertise, such as art, science, philosophy, religion, and the cross-cultural dissemination of ideas, with a strong emphasis on primary sources written in Arabic and/or Persian. The fellowship is tenable for a three-month period, offering a stipend of £3000 per month, paid upon arrival.
