T.B.L. Webster Fellowship

A research fellowship for international scholars focusing on ancient theatre, performance, classical art, or archaeology, held at the Institute of Classical Studies in London.

Fellowship
The T.B.L. Webster Fellowship, established in 1999, is designed for scholars affiliated with universities outside the United Kingdom. This esteemed fellowship supports research in specific areas, including ancient theatre and performance and its reception, as well as classical art and archaeology. Successful candidates are expected to undertake a research stay of at least six weeks at the Institute of Classical Studies (ICS), with the flexibility to arrange their visit within one academic year. A key component of the fellowship requires applicants to submit a proposal for an event or training activity to be conducted at the ICS during their residency. Proposals that demonstrate potential for engagement with classical researchers based in the UK or the wider national and international subject community are especially encouraged. Fellows are provided with an allowance of £6,000 to assist with travel and accommodation expenses. Additionally, funding up to a maximum of £1,000 is allocated to support the proposed event or training activity, specifically to cover speakers' travel expenses. The Institute of Classical Studies further facilitates the fellowship by providing a dedicated room and appropriate catering for the fellow's stay. Applicants are required to complete an application form and submit it along with a short CV, and arrange for two academic references to be sent directly to the Institute.
