Pace University Undergraduate Summer Internship

A summer internship for rising undergraduate psychology seniors to gain supervised experience in a university counseling center through clinical exposure, seminars, research, and outreach.

Research Internship
The Counseling Center at Pace University's New York City campus offers four undergraduate psychology summer internship positions annually. The program's objective is to provide summer interns with supervised experience in the diverse functions of a professional psychologist within a university counseling center. Training encompasses didactic seminars on topics such as clinical interviewing, therapeutic techniques, professional issues, and diagnostic categories, delivered by experts from within and outside the Counseling Center. Participants also engage in scholarly research, which may involve literature reviews, statistical database management, and academic writing, including developing individual presentations based on their research interests relevant to the Counseling Center staff. Outreach and consultation activities are an integral part, allowing interns to plan or create materials for psycho-educational programming. Exposure to clinical work is provided through mock screening interviews, where interns learn interviewing fundamentals and mental status examination. Interns receive one to two hours of individual and group supervision weekly from a pre-doctoral psychology intern acting as the Training Director and senior staff. The program also includes a written evaluation of each intern's progress at the end of the summer, with active intern participation in providing and receiving feedback. This is a part-time, 20-hour per week, unpaid, volunteer-based training program. Eligibility requires candidates to be rising seniors enrolled in an undergraduate psychology or related field program, with a desire to pursue an advanced degree in psychology. Pace University students are not eligible.
