The CUNY Graduate Center's Center for the Study of Political, Cultural, and Social Movements (CPCP) offers a Visiting Scholar Program designed to foster scholarly exchange and advance social movements globally. This program invites visiting scholars from various countries to join the weekly CPCP seminar and pursue their independent research in New York City. The CPCP particularly encourages applications from individuals based outside of the United States, Canada, and Western Europe, as well as those working outside traditional academic settings. Participants in the program have the opportunity to conduct research in New York City, attend the CPCP weekly seminar, receive support from the CUNY Graduate Center for obtaining a J-1 visa (if needed), and gain access to all public programming and lectures sponsored by the CPCP and other CUNY Graduate Center departments. Scholars also benefit from access to the CUNY Graduate Center library and IT infrastructure, along with opportunities to socialize with other CPCP fellows, faculty, and students. Visiting scholars are responsible for securing their own research funding, housing, and health insurance. Office space is not provided. Scholars may propose visit durations ranging from a week to an entire academic year, aligning with their research goals and the CUNY Graduate Center's academic calendar. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, with specific deadlines for seminar participation in the fall and spring semesters.
