Genomics Experience for Master R53s Students (GEMS)

A 12-week immersive genomics research program for master's level quantitative scientists focusing on cancer medicine and precision oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Research Internship
Genomics Experience for Master R53s Students (GEMS) is a 12-week full-time, on-campus program designed for master's level quantitative scientists. It aims to provide an immersive experience for students to engage in real-world team science projects, applying and translating their quantitative skills into meaningful scientific contributions in cancer medicine, with a specific focus on cancer genomics and precision oncology. The program allows students to fully engage with mentors and a multidisciplinary research team on cutting-edge projects, preparing them for genomics-oriented data science careers. Each fellow benefits from a dual-mentorship model (one quantitative/computational mentor and one scientific mentor) to foster an interdisciplinary and immersive training environment. Trainees need to demonstrate a strong interest in learning cancer genomics, though prior experience in this area is not required. The GEMS program is supported by the National Cancer Institute (R25-CA272282) and the MSK Society.
