Visiting Research Student in Economics

A research scheme for doctoral students from other universities to engage in research and collaborate with leading academics at LSE.

Research Stay
The LSE Visiting Research Student (VRS) scheme provides an opportunity for doctoral researchers from other universities to spend between one term and one academic year at the London School of Economics and Political Science. This program allows students to immerse themselves in the research environment of LSE's Department of Economics, a globally recognized institution with leading expertise across the full spectrum of mainstream economics. Participants engage in research activities, interact with other doctoral students, and benefit from the extensive resources of the LSE faculty, the PhD Academy's training, and the LSE Library facilities. The program is particularly suited for students at an advanced stage of their doctoral training who are capable of independent research. Visiting Research Students are expected to be self-funded and will not have access to accredited or examined courses, nor will they receive full supervision akin to an LSE doctoral student. However, they can participate in doctoral workshops and research seminars, interact with peers, and discuss their research with a nominated advisor. The Department of Economics encourages applicants to align their research interests with those of LSE faculty members and to establish initial contact with a potential advisor before applying. The department's academics and researchers are at the forefront of their field, with their work influencing economic policy and tackling global challenges, offering an unparalleled academic setting for visiting researchers.
